In Ventura County, child custody mediation is recommending and you may wish to receive some consulting prior to mediation or perhaps you and the other parent would rather have the benefit of doing a private recommending mediation.
If there is high conflict between you and your ex-spouse and both of you are unable to successfully negotiate issues related to the custody and welfare of the children then you a child custody evaluation is necessary. A stipulation and court order appointing myself as a 730 child custody evaluator or 733 expert witness is necessary in order and I will be happy to send your attorneys my stipulation and order forms. For those of you have been to court several times it may be necessary to have a special master/parent coordinator appointed to manage your coparenting differences. Therapy provides a safe, confidential environment for you and/or your children to work through issues which may or may not be affected by a divorce. Your children may be acting out from the divorce and/or having coinciding issues which are developmentally age appropriate but compounded by the break up of the family, or perhaps you have teenagers exhibiting alientaing behaviors and/or reacting with volatility which are not indicative of the divorce. Custody and visitation can become estranged between children and their parents when one parent has been absent for a period of time or when parent/child relationship is already conflicted then reunification therapy is needed to identify the behaviors and relationship between that child and parent. If there have been allegations of abuse or a history of domestic violence and/or substance abuse by the parent(s) then therapeutic visitations would help to facilitate the children's relationship with that parent.
